Food Waste

How is food waste an issue in there area?

The Truth About Food Waste

An estimated 30% of all food produced for human consumption is thrown out. (i) Both producers and consumers are to blame for this ongoing global crisis.

Fruits and vegetables are the largest group of food being taken to the landfills. People have a perfect image in their mind when they think of a certain fruit or vegetable. If the fruit or vegetable is too big, too small, or just not appealing, some growers will throw them out. If it makes it to the store, consumers avoid these "Oddballs" as if they were rotten. The truth is, the imperfect fruit we think as gross, is actually good.

Consumers are also to blame with food waste, as many people purchase too much food needed for their household. This results in food getting pushed back and forgotten about. When they find this forgotten food, it's gone bad and it's forced to be thrown away.
